do you sense a theme?
lovely white decorative pieces.
i want each and every one of them.
want not need.
i am dreaming of a white (decor) christmas.
although it is too early for christmas decor, in my opinion.
one holiday at a time.
in the meantime have a lovely weekend.

10 things

10 things I am grateful for today: in no particular order:

1. blue jeans
2. warm apple crisp
3. the hope of a new day
4. new friends and old friends alike
5. farmer cheese on toast
6. upcoming getaway weekends (1 solo to visit molly in SLC and 1 with john to SAC)
7. cozy hoodies
8. friday evening family time
9. reading the magician's nephew with jude
10. a spic n' span spotless kitchen (project completed)

believe it or not

believe it or not i do have a life beyond home improvement projects and cooking dinner for my kids.
i know i rarely blog about those other things but i do have a life.
really i do.
i work part time at a family run hardware store (hi ed!), hike with lucy at the ridge (hi gopher snake...yikes!), volunteer in the library at the kids school (hi christina!) and hang with friends (hi jenny!).

this week, ej and jenny came for lunch (salad and mac n'cheese) and playtime.

a fun time was had by all...to be repeated on saturday.

raising foodies week 7

Raising foodies week 7
Again a meal prepared from what was on hand...do you see a theme in dinner prep at my house?
Nonetheless a big hit with 3/4 of the family and 1/4 (the son) liked everything but the salad greens and spinach...he is more of a cooked veggie kinda guy.
Grilled chicken thighs basted with teriyaki sauce over a bed of organic baby green and spinach.
I topped the greens with warm brown rice, corn and black beans (leftovers).
Topped the whole thing with crumbled feta and a wee bit of dressing (Brianna's New American).
Filling, healthy and easy.
What have you been cooking?
...
One more week of the raising foodies online cooking group.
A big thanks to Joslyn.
So, my kitchen is back into shape...there are still the lower cupboards to sort and purge but I need more shelf liners before I start that assignment.
I love the de-clutter process.
I love the open spaces.
I even cleaned off the fridge.
Ah, so freeing.

The color is a bit off in this photo (too light) because the green is actually brighter.
This was the free-to-me pantry cupboard.
I lined the shelves with laminated fabric I had in my stash...originally destined to be a lunch bag but instead now graces my kitchen pantry unit.
I had hoped to cram more stuff into this cupboard and have all my dry goods in one place but alas I can not...I want a bit of space between my food.
I suspect I still have some adjusting and moving of things around in my cupboards as I adjust to the new set up.

The green interior really shows off my vintage and vintage inspired practical tchotchkes.
I am pleased.
2 more bags for Goodwill...feels great to lighten the load, now if only weight loss was as easy.

cleaning project gone amuck

have you ever started the day with an idea to clean?
you know, a deep clean kinda day.
this doesn't happen too often to me, but i am participating in the apartment therapy kitchen cure and this week is the "deep clean".

ever so innocently, i started clearing out my cupboards to purge and clean...
combining 2 weeks assignments into one.

next thing i know, i am at the hardware store buying paint.
next thing i know, i am pulling off cupboard doors and am painting.

of course, if i'm painting the inside of the cupboard then i need to touch up the white paint on the outside, which means i need to repaint the door fronts of most of the kitchen cupboards.
do you see where my day is going?
yes, there was espresso involved.
in my travels this morning a "new to me" pantry cupboard fell into my lap, so to speak....thank you dee.

next thing i know i am painting said cupboard.
next thing i know, i have decided to paint 2 side tables for the living room.
when john came home for dinner , i had the stove & fridge pulled away for the wall and was standing on a chair scrubbing the top on the fridge with an old toothbrush.
he asked if i was being punished which sent me into a fit of snorting laughter.
perhaps a bit much for one day.
perhaps.
but, boy oh boy, it does feel great to accomplish so much... yet there is so far to go.
my kitchen is still a big fat mess.
seriously, every counter and the table are full of "kitcheny things", the floor is damp for a partial mopping and the dinner dishes are piled in the sink.
i gotta go clean up.
