It's Friday, link away!

photo from Design Observer

Every day, I spend oodles of time tooling around on the world wide web. The computer is my entertainment (I rarely watch TV), my daily read and a great source of inspiration.  Clearly a time waster.
Let's be clear though, I do accomplish a zillion other things in the course of a day.  Okay, okay, maybe not a zillion but certainly many many things...household chores and shopping, working, volunteering, exercising Lucy, reading books to the kids, hand making party invites and valentines and so on and so forth as I toot my own horn.
I, also, waste far too much time on the computer, but in doing so I learn so much and am reminded daily of the creativity and brilliance of folk everywhere.
I am intrigued on how I came across such interesting bits.
Link upon link upon link to find the treasures amidst the blather.
...
Take Design Observer for example and this lovely little article about decades worth of composition books.  I love journals.  I have many that I rarely write in  (since blogging is a journal too) but back in the day before kids and when my life was full of angst I journaled like crazy.  I use to keep prayer journals but since I was a teenager I have kept "bits and pieces" journals, notebooks full of quotes, photos and the such.
I came across this post via black eiffel via ohhellofriend.
...
Or how about, earlier today when I found the perfect husband for my sister.
...
Follow me on one more linky loo to Simply Lovely and her spending hiatus.
Food for thought and definitely a post for another day.

supper follow up...lousy photos

Supper could have been worse.
Could have been better.
The portions were small.  (the above photo was dinner for the 4 of us.)
I heartily applaud the effort.
What can a parent expect from a 5 and nearly 7 year old?
Ack, nearly 7...in less than a month I will have a 7 year old!

What, haven't you had shredded wheat (NOT frosted), shredded and toasted with Monterery Jack cheese, served with a side of fruit, loads of whipped cream and drinkable yogurt?
Wasn't so bad.
Tasted like cheese toast and fruit.
Yes, I had to step in a give a lesson on how to hold cheese when grating and to cut up the pear...we just sharpened our knives, for the first time EVER!! (Hello, Why has it taken us 8 years to sharpen our knives?  Duh!  it takes about 2 minutes or less if you get a BIL to help)
The kiddos thought making dinner was fun so I expect this will happen again in our future.  Oh, boy!

a day in the life or something like that.

Earlier this afternoon, a girl and her dog sat by a window, watching the world go by.
The girl child was engaged in a make believe conversation with someone.
I am not sure to whom she was speaking, but there were a lot of "I love you!",
"Don't cry." and "I will return." exclamations.
I have a hunch she was pretending she was Padme and the unknown was Anakin.  Have I mentioned we (the kids and the dad) are in full on Star Wars mode.
The flash cards, the movies, the books and the conversations...Star Wars.
Oh my heavens.  What is a mama to do.
Embrace.

Speaking of embracing, Jude wants to make supper tonight.
He wanted me to have muffets, white cheese that melts and pears on hand.
Hmm.  I wonder what we are eating.
How could  I say no?
The child wants to prepare dinner.
Tomorrow, I'll let you know what was on the menu.
There are no hot ovens or stoves only toaster ovens and microwaves.
Sounds yummy, dontchathink?

morning routines

The fruit.

The fiber.
...
The morning routine of breakfast, uniforms, piano practice, arguments, pet feedings, last minute email checking, lunch packing, and about a zillion little things.
...
Top o' the morning to you.

oops

Sometimes you (I) have an original idea.
Sometimes you (I) don't.
Sometimes you (I) think, "Hey I could do that!"

Sometimes you (I) buy the supplies and give it a shot.
Sometimes you (I) try to wing it.
Sometimes you (I) fail.

Sometimes you (I) end up with a crooked heart.
Sometimes it is worth taking the time to draw a heart first.
Delia loves her valentine shirt despite my foibles.
...
Next time I will buy the inspiration shirt.
Nah, I doubt it.
Next time I will stitch the buttons on after I draw the heart on the tee.
If, there is a next time.
...
Life application:
Love doesn't happen all at once and often you end up with a lopsided heart.
I'll take love, crooked heart and all.
